Privacy Policy
How we handle your data and protect your privacy.
Last Updated: January 1, 2024
SenderReputation.org ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use our website and tools.
1. Information We Collect
We collect minimal information necessary to operate our tools and improve the service:
- Domain names and IP addresses entered in tools - When you use our tools (such as the Sender Reputation Checker or Blacklist Checker), we process the domain names and IP addresses you submit in order to perform the requested lookups.
- IP addresses for rate limiting - We temporarily log your IP address to enforce fair-use rate limits and prevent abuse of our services.
- Standard web analytics - We collect aggregated, non-personally-identifiable analytics data such as page views, browser type, and referring URLs to understand how our site is used and to improve the experience.
2. How We Use Information
The information we collect is used solely for the following purposes:
- To provide tool results - Domain names and IP addresses you enter are used to perform DNS lookups, blacklist queries, and other analyses needed to generate your results.
- To improve our services - Aggregated analytics help us understand which tools are most used, identify performance issues, and prioritize new features.
- To enforce rate limits - IP-based rate limiting ensures fair access for all users and protects the service from abuse.
- To maintain security - We use standard server logs to detect and prevent malicious activity.
3. What We Don't Do
We want to be clear about what we do not do with your data:
- We do not sell your data. Your information is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We do not track individual users. We do not build user profiles, fingerprint browsers, or track you across sessions.
- We do not require accounts. All of our tools work without registration, login, or any personally identifiable information.
- We do not send unsolicited emails. We will never email you unless you explicitly contact us first.
4. Cookies
We use minimal cookies on this website:
- Analytics cookies - We may use cookies from analytics services to collect aggregated usage data. These cookies do not contain personally identifiable information.
- No tracking cookies - We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking mechanisms of any kind.
- No third-party ad cookies - We do not display advertisements and therefore set no advertising-related cookies.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Our tools will continue to function normally without cookies.
5. Third-Party Services
We use a limited number of third-party services:
- Google Fonts - We load web fonts from Google Fonts to provide consistent typography. Google may collect your IP address and browser information when fonts are loaded. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
- Web analytics - We may use a web analytics service to collect aggregated, anonymous usage statistics. No personally identifiable information is shared with analytics providers.
6. Data Retention
- Tool results cache - DNS lookup results and tool outputs are temporarily cached to improve performance. Cache entries are automatically cleared on a regular basis (typically within 1-4 hours).
- No permanent storage of lookup results - We do not permanently store the results of individual tool queries. Once the cache expires, the data is deleted.
- Rate limiting data - IP-based rate limiting records are automatically purged after the rate limit window expires (typically 1 hour).
- Server logs - Standard web server logs are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting purposes, then deleted.
7. DNS Lookups
All DNS queries performed by our tools use publicly available information. DNS records (such as MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records) are published in the global Domain Name System and are accessible to anyone. Our tools simply query and present this public data in a user-friendly format.
No private or confidential information is accessed during our DNS lookups. The data we retrieve is the same data that any mail server, DNS resolver, or network tool can access.
8. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access - You may request information about what data, if any, we hold about you.
- Deletion - You may request that we delete any data associated with your use of our services.
- Opt-out - You can opt out of analytics tracking by disabling cookies in your browser or using a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@senderreputation.org.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your data.
Continued use of our website and tools after changes to this policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
